Our staff has a proven track record in writing restoration and dredging specifications and contract language. We have overseen more than a dozen major construction projects across the Gulf coast and Atlantic shoreline. With our unique knowledge of the marine construction industry, we have unmatched cost estimating abilities. Our engineers have designed projects for the USACE, NOAA, NRCS, CPRA, and various parishes, counties, and private clients.
Wetland Delineation & Permitting
Permitting challenges our personnel have overcome include Mississippi River dredging, surveying and implementing projects around sensitive marine habitats, designing dredging projects to ensure adequate dissolved oxygen levels are maintained post-construction, implementing projects while avoiding impacts to existing infrastructure (e.g. levees, railroads, utilities, hurricane evacuation routes, etc.). Construction administration, site inspection, and implementation compliance are at the forefront of our firm’s strengths.
Over 15,000,000 cubic yards of sediment have been placed under our engineers’ oversight.
Our engineers have several years of experience utilizing state of the art technology such as small Unmanned Aerial Systems (sUAS) to ensure projects are constructed in accordance with the design parameters and also comply with permit restrictions.

Marsh Restoration
Our staff has extensive marsh restoration experience in Louisiana with projects designed and constructed from Cameron Parish to Plaquemines Parish. We are very familiar with the CWPPRA, RESTORE, and NRDA project implementation processes. Our projects are designed to achieve project success based on versatile habitat creation, tidal datum variance, vegetative response, and existing soil properties.
Barrier Island, Beach, and Dune Restoration
Designing beach and dune habitat is one of our many strengths. Experience includes evaluating historic losses and designing to maximize sediment retention as well as managing numerical modeling studies to assess projected geomorphology.
Shoreline Protection & Stabilization
Our engineers have designed and overseen construction of shoreline protection projects from Louisiana to North Carolina. Project experience includes breakwater, groin, and terminal jetty designs.
Living Shorelines
SSE has designed and evaluated multiple different living shoreline designs for quantitative benefits. This includes serving as owner’s representative in physical modeling studies as well as performing numerical modeling and field data collection of living shoreline designs.
Dredging
Our engineers have designed and managed projects that have dredged tens of millions of cubic yards of sediment. These projects include barrier island restoration, wetland restoration, navigation, and lake maintenance.
Numerical Modeling
SSE specializes in numerical modeling of shorelines and coastal structures, utilizing state-of-the-art tools such as FLOW-3D to refine designs and ensure optimal project performance.
